Where do you
want to live?
If you find planning meals difficult it may be better to be in a catered hall of residence.
Can you drive? If you need to use public transport, check on the access to this and availability.
Find out where there are local shops for food supplies.
Find out what buses/trains go to and from where you live to the college or university and when they run.
If you need to flat share - you may need to go to see the accommodation office in the college or university and give your details. They may have a notice board to put up your details.
If you choose a flat - you will need to give a bond to start with - this can be a month’s rent plus one month in advance.
Things to do
when you first arrive
Have you got a bank account you can access independently?
Have you signed up with a doctor - this could be in the university or near where you live?
Go along to the student freshers’ week - but don’t try to sign up for every activity - you can always do this later. Choose a few to try out.
Make sure you eat - as well as drink!
