Dress code for interviews

In general when attending an interview it is best to follow these rules:

  • Be conservative. Conservative is best for the interview regardless of the dress code at the organization. Better to wear a clean plain shirt and trousers or skirt at a suitable length than be at risk of wearing something inappropriate.
  • If you're unsure, call them and ask!  Ask if the company has a dress code. If you are still unsure, go for a conservative look.
  • Make sure you have a well-groomed hair style.
  • Make sure that you have clean and trimmed finger nails.
  • Do not wear too much perfume or after shave but certainly make sure you have showered or bathed and your clothes are clean and you have used antiperspirant - when you are nervous you are likely to sweat more.
  • Think about not having visible body piercing.
  • Don't chew gum.
  • Try wearing limited amounts of jewellery.
  • Make sure your shoes are clean and polished.
