Reading with your child
Feeling comfortable
Making sure you and your
child are comfortable and in a quiet environment so their
attention won't be drawn to other things such as the
TV.
How to help
• Make
story time as interactive as possible using props to involve your
child such as puppets.
• If your child is fidgety
give him/her a "fiddle toy". This could be a soft ball or a small
toy.
• Get your child to join in
by turning the pages.
• Encourage your child to
talk about what they can see on the page and what they think might
happen
next in the
story.
• Encourage your child to
repeat key words - even if it is "now we turn the page" after the
end of every
page.
