Reinforcing reading and spelling

 

In order for a child to learn to read and write they need to understand the letter sounds and recognise and remember the shapes.

Some ways of reinforcing this can be through play and having some fun:
 
• Make letter shapes in dough or in pastry- you can use ready to go pastry and cut out the shapes or roll
   them out into "snakes" first and then make your child's name with him or her.
 
• Encourage your child to write out the letters using chunky chalk outside (where it can be hosed down
  after) or on a carpet square.
 
• Write letters in shaving foam in the bath.
